Christianity has historically twisted itself by overemphasizing the internal person of Jesus. How could he do the amazing things he did: who was he on the inside, and how are God and him related? As important as these questions are, for me, a better approach is to look not so much at the person of Jesus but at the priorities of Jesus. His was the way of compassion and justice for our world. He invites us to follow him and to embody, in our own lives, relationships, and practices, God's love for the world.
At our best, this is what PCU does: it engages people and communities in this work, better yet, in this lifestyle of discipleship. I look forward to PCU partnering with congregations and groups in this task for many years. To that end, I have a challenge for you: thanks to an anonymous gift, we are able to match any financial contributions made between now and June 30, effectively doubling your donation.* Make a gift here or mail a donation in today!
I see great things ahead for PCU. We are challenging mass incarceration, affirming the beauty of creation by addressing climate change, and building action and reflection ministry teams - this is an exciting time. With divine grace guiding us along the way, it's a great time to live out this mission!
In hope,
