The good news of resurrection is a threat to the powers-that-be of this world. Easter may begin by raising up our spirits through proclaiming that we are loved even when we feel unlovable. But it expands far beyond our personal worth by inviting us to live as an uprising to all the powers and principalities that seek to crucify the "criminal," the earth, and the oppressed on behalf of the false gods of retribution and consumption.
Resurrection is not about the resuscitation of a corpse. And if it only applied to Jesus, it would be simply irrelevant news. No, resurrection is about our bodily insurrection through the power of God. It is a power that rekindled hope where it was dead, of struggling to live as alternatives to the bad news our society practices and preaches. By participating in the divine insurrection, we partner with each other and the holy in the work of living into the divine commonwealth (i.e. the kingdom of God). As Paul says, "It is no longer I who live but Christ who lives in me" (Galatians 2:20). When you live the resurrection as insurrection, one's whole body proclaims, "Jesus lives!"
In living hope,
